About Tobias

Tobias is a co-founding partner and the managing director of Kollision since 2000. He holds a PhD and a Masters in architecture specializing in communication design. His primary tasks, besides managing, revolve around project management, design, concept and method development, exhibition and interaction design as well as user engagement and involvement – often with special attention to the visual and graphical identity of the projects.

Tobias previously held a part time position as Leader of Practise (2011) at Aarhus School of Architecture (AAA) with the responsibility to aid the faculty and the school in creating connections with private enterprises. He came from a part time position as an assistant professor (2010) at the Institute for Design at AAA where he taught students in design processes, methods and communication. His research centred on the benefits and potentials of the “expanded notion of design” as the field of design expands from traditional graphical and product design to also encompass immaterial, service and strategic design. He also functioned as Coordinator of Studies with responsibility for coordinating the teaching staff and planning the overall study programme at the Institute of Design.

Tobias submitted the Ph.D. thesis “Urban Games” in 2005. The thesis investigated the use of games in the early stages of urban planning processes mainly through cases developed in Kollision. He graduated from the Department of Communication Design at AAA in 2000 and worked as a part time research assistant until 2001. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as a junior architect at Michael Hopkins and Partners.

Tobias is a frequent teacher, guest critic, censor and lecturer at IT, architecture and design universities in Scandinavia and has been a member of The Danish Art Community (Kunstnersamfundet) since 2006.
